UPSC imparting the jitters to aspirants before prelims exam
The UPSC exam is giving the jitters to aspirants much before the prelims have even begun. With an unexpected surge in the number of applicants for this prestigious exam this year, there is a severe shortage of forms in the city. The last date for submissions being February 1, there is a mad scramble for the applications.
The General Post Office, Abids, was host to many anxious faces on Friday as aspirants stood in queue praying that they should go back with the application in their hands.
The authorities restricted issuance of applications making it one form for one person.
“I never knew that I would have such nervous moments while applying. I thought I could easily get the application. But I am worried now since I could not get the form anywhere and this is my only hope,” confides Sushanth Babu, an engineering graduate waiting in the line for a form. “I have put in more than one year of effort and the thought of not being able to apply scares me.” The UPSC forms, which are usually sold in major post offices in Secunderabad, Khairatabad and Kacheguda, are out of stock. Upon enquiry, the staff in all of the post offices had a common reply: “There has been a shortage of forms since a week and there's no clarity on when we will receive them from Delhi.” One of the major reasons for the present crisis is a spurt in the applicants owing to the increase in vacancies in civil services, which has caught the attention of the youth.
