- The proposed fund will be bilateral in nature and not under the auspices of the United Nations Framework Convention for Climate Change. New technology for studying arterial blocks
- The latest technique for analysing coronary blocks is almost as good as a second opinion.
- Fractional Flow Reserve (FFR), a procedure by which a catheter is inserted to analyse pressure differences in coronary blocks, can tell patients whether they need an angioplasty.
- It is designed to determine the extent of the block in terms of the oxygen flow being impeded. The result is an absolute number which tells doctors by how much the blood pressure will drop in a given coronary block. Priced at Rs.40,000, the five-minute- long procedure, saves patients the cost and trouble of undergoing an angioplasty.
- Currently, all blocks are treated by an angioplasty. But given the accuracy of FFR, we can tell if the block is serious or not.
